eCommerce for the Small Business Owner
One apparent way of earning money online and through a website is to use electronic commerce or ecommerce, that is, by selling directly to people worldwide. This is done through various online payment methods, like PayPal or credit-card payments.
In online business, the Internet is apparently used in the setup of e-commerce’s life-cycle. Let’s also keep in mind the ever powerful e-mail.
Electronic commerce or e-commerce is also known as electronic marketing. Simply, it consists of buying and selling of products and/or services through the use of the Internet, where networking and other transactions occur online.
Included in these online business activities are Internet marketing, electronic funds transfer, online transaction processing, electronic data interchange (EDI), supply chain management, inventory management systems, and other forms of data collections which are automated.
It is advisable to research online all you can about your product and services, the trend, competition, who are the buyers and where they are coming from. Any worthwhile information helps. Also some products may not be as lucrative online since some buyers may prefer to feel, touch and see the items before buying. Instead of focusing on your business on e-commerce, online shops can be sideline for the regular business offline.
If product distribution is a concern, for example, items like shirts, shoes, or some home crafts, would your business be able to cope with it?
The bottom line is to not make an over commitment to online trading or ecommerce at the beginning. Feel your way around first while the regular business goes as usual.
