How to Convince People You Are Working from Home

You have decided to work from home and are serious about it. How do you convince your friends, ex-colleagues or new friends that you are indeed serious about your home based business?

If you work from home and have trouble convincing some of your new found friends or acquaintances that you don’t have time for phone chats, happy hours, or shopping, it’s time to do something.

Some people who start working from home are so carried away by the freedom of working in their pyjamas that they end up more awed instead of actually being efficient. This is okay at the beginning, that is, to get excited about new working life.

The setting of boundaries is definitely, and absolutely, the responsibility of the person working from home or at-home worker. This could be as simple as closing your door even to your family, a signal that you don’t want to be disturbed. Simply inform them when they can.

About your friends or neighbours, you can politely let them know you will catch up for lunch or after 6pm, for example. This way they are not made to feel they are intruding, at the same time they realize you are serious with your work from home. It’s giving the people around you the right signals rather than wrong perceptions.
